David-Paul B. Hedberg, principal historian

My interest in history began with my childhood in the Pacific Northwest. I often traveled to visit family across the region and was fascinated by the natural and cultural landmarks that make each community distinct. The stories of my great-grandparents and grandparents developed my ear for listening and led to a passion for researching the past. I have spent most of my life outside exploring places—old buildings, fields, and forests.

I want to help people tell stories and connect them to places. If we connect our history to place, we can understand change over time.

I hold a Master of Arts in History with a focus on Environmental, Native American, and Public History and a Bachelors of Science degree in history with a minor in Native American Studies. I exceed the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards as outlined in 36 CFR Part 61.

I am a member of multiple professional historian and museum organizations and believe in continuing education and life-long learning.

I am a Certified Interpretive Guide with the National Association for Interpretation.

I have a Small Museum Pro! certificate from the American Association for State and Local History.
